About Teachable
Teachable hosts online courses, coaching programs and digital downloads with video hosting, drip content, quizzes, certificates, product bundles, a built-in affiliate program and tax-compliant checkout (VAT and US sales tax handled automatically on Teachable Payments).
In mid-2025 Teachable dropped its free plan entirely. Pricing now starts at the Starter plan ($39/mo monthly, $29/mo billed annually), which carries a 7.5% transaction fee on every sale on top of card processing fees. The Builder plan ($89/mo, $69/mo annual) and Growth plan ($189/mo, $139/mo annual) remove the transaction fee entirely and add features like more course admins, unlimited students on higher tiers, and priority support. A custom/Enterprise tier is available on request.
Payouts run daily through Teachable Payments (Stripe-based) or monthly through the alternative payment gateway option; PayPal is also supported for checkout in some configurations.
Strengths: a mature, reliable product with a genuine affiliate program creators can use to recruit their own promoters, solid tax handling across regions, and support for coaching calls, communities and bundles alongside standard video courses. Weaknesses: removing the free tier raised the real cost of entry compared to competitors that still offer a free or near-free starting plan, the 7.5% fee on the entry-level Starter plan stacks with card fees, and template/design flexibility remains limited compared to a fully custom site.
Best suited to creators who are past the "just testing an idea" stage and ready to commit at least $29-39/mo, and who want an affiliate program and tax handling built in rather than bolted on.
Pros
- Built-in affiliate program, tax handling (VAT/US sales tax) and support for coaching, bundles and certificates
- Daily payouts via Teachable Payments
Cons
- No free plan since the 2025 pricing overhaul — entry price is $29-39/mo
- 7.5% transaction fee on the entry Starter plan; design flexibility is limited
