Documentation, community forums, and most of the plugin ecosystem are primarily in Japanese, which is a real barrier if you don't read the language or don't have access to Japanese-speaking developers — this is the platform's main limitation for a global audience.

Who it fits: businesses and developers building or maintaining Japan-focused online stores, or teams that already have Symfony/PHP expertise and want an established, battle-tested local option rather than a global SaaS platform. Who it doesn't fit: publishers outside Japan with no local team, or anyone wanting a hosted, no-code, English-first setup — Shopify or WooCommerce will be a smoother fit there. It suits general e-commerce niches with no strong vertical specialization.
